    When Sam Fuller, the Bassist for Venomous Rose hit me up with their new debut "The Devil is a Friend of Mine", my first thought was "Running With the Devil" by Van Halen and my pre-destined thought were correct. These guys bring Hair Metal back and they do it perfectly with this debut.

    If you thought Hair/Glamour Metal was dead then think again. The lyrics to this song just take me back to my first concert my old man took me to when I was twelve, Ozzfest. The word flow is pristine. An amazing mixture of strong and simple words. They easily get their message across to the listener. What I pulled from these lyrics; Everyone has the devil to deal with in their lives in some shape or form so might as well embrace it, make friends with him/her, and roll n' roll with it. Take it to the max. Let your devil side come out and party on Garth. 

    Between the sick guitar solos, epic notes from the vocals, heavy and earthy bass, and the drums keeping the pulse, all I can do is see myself in a mosh pit throughout this whole song. I hope someday to see these guys live and make that happen. They are definitely a Year 2021 Twisted Sister. They brought sexy back from the 80's! The Lyric Video you can play below is a "South Park" style, a simple but creative future masterpiece in its works. The Devil is the cutest evil thing I've seen since binge-watching asshole cats attack owners just for petting them. Either way, I want to cuddle with both.

These guys overall rocked my socks off. Hell, if I was wearing underwear right now, probably those too. I will definitely give these guys a well-deserved 4.5/5 on my charts. You can view that below. Sure enough Maximus Mayhew sends me a message and his new release.  Like any self titled, decent blogger doing a review I wanted a little bit of a background of Mr. Mayhew and his musical influences, his personal style, and try to get into his skin for a minute. Holy shit, was that a mistake!! LMFAO, I'm actually just kidding....kinda. We will get to his new release in a minute. 

Crazy Style Gets Crazy Reviews:

I'd like to start by saying happy early birthday new friend (March 14) and I will now refer to you as Mad Max. Mad Max has been influenced by bands like Blink-182 and Sum 41 and you can hear it in songs such as Fruit Salad. Yes, it's exactly how it sounds. But then he states he is a little bit of everything including rap-core. By God he wasn't kidding. My description of Mad Maxs style would have to be this: Hollywood Undead had a baby with Bowling For Soup but was raised by the two uncles who refuse to come out of the closet but the whole family knows and doesn't care, but go by the names Tenacious D and Body Count. It may sound like a turn off to some but I'm telling you I LOVE IT! Check out Letz Get Crunk and tell me wrong. 

REVIEW:

  Now, Mad Maxs stage name, Emerald Aquarium released a new single February 5, 2021 by the name Significance. This acoustic, soft but hurried melody had me from the beginning. I immediately felt like I was on some epic quest trying to find an artifact of some sort.  After listening over and over this feeling never went away. My personal opinion, it was just that. A quest to find myself again. It tells a beautiful story of confusion, loneliness,  jealousy, and misunderstanding of one's self. I know every song means something else to everybody but I'm positive we all can get close. It has straight to the point lyrics, but still leaves you questioning yourself. With light taps and fast strums this song can find a place in everybody's hearts and leave you trying to work yourself through a situation like this: Am I having regrets because I left her? Did she leave me and I'm jealous of her 1relationship now? Am I only missing the feeling of having somebody, a partner, someone to be there? If I am over this than what truly is the significance of these feelings? 

CONCLUSION:

     I've got to be honest with Mad Maxs self produced Emerald Aquarium- Significance. This new release of his was phenomenal. Emerald Aquarium where their feelings on their sleeves and wears those sleeves with confidence.  This is my conclusion of 1-5, 1 being worst, 5 best:

1. Get your music on playlists

One thing people do rather than working out, driving home, sitting in the office, studying, or just cleaning the house is listening to music. Popular curators on streaming services like Amazon Music has playlists of music that people follow. Of course, try to stay within your genre and fan base. Send in some songs or podcasts and try to get added to the playlists. It is ok to start small and but don't sell yourself short.

2. Post your music on as many free platforms as possible

The more your name is out there, the more people will hear you. It is always important to try to spread your fan base as well as your connections. Social Media sites such as Facebook, blogging platforms like Yours Truly, etc will increase traffic and popularity. Be careful not to spam. 

3. Don't just have basic merchandise, try to come up with something unique

Everybody loves a badass snapback, hoodie, or koozie. But if everyone is selling the same products, at some point that's all it will become, just another worn-out t-shirt or koozie in the junk drawer. Don't get it wrong though. The basic merchandise list is there for a reason, it sells the most. The number selling item still is a t-shirt. A couple cool items to think about that are simple could be guitar pics, mugs, paraphernalia, ground coffee, buttons? You can put your logo on anything these days. Maybe. Remember COVID still sucks and it trying to destroy everybody's lives. The most  Everybody needs a mask. Just remember to see what your fan base in and what they are wearing and are into. Don't over-purchase and stay within your budget.

4. Promote in-person and local advertising

The day of the flyer and magazine clippings is not over. Taking a little money out of pocket to post flyers, hand out clips, buy some space online or in physical magazines still helps. It is 2021 so everything is just a snap of a phone away.  Make a QR code going to your bands' site or a Spotify Code. You can make a QR code for literally anything. Throw it on a sticker, button, flyer, etc.

5. Have bloggers do roundups of your inspirations, reviews of songs, and personal stories.

There are popular music blogs everywhere. But it can be difficult to get a shout-out, review, or interview on these platforms. But here is also smaller guys in the playing field like myself who are trying to make it and will gladly do just that. The easiest way is to reach out.

Everybody's got followers and if you hear their voice on some kind of radio, you know they're passionate.

9. Work as a Team

All the band members need to get together to and assign roles. If you can hire out to achieve all this, then by all means do it. Most bands starting out cannot though. With all the work split up, the easier it will be.

10. Live Gigs

The most obvious. Live Gigs. Go on tour. Tour swap with other bands in other states and countries if you can. The further out you go, the better. Get out there and do what your passion is craving.

I know this is all easier to type and read than it is to actually do it but no one succeeded by sitting on their ass. (I guess I technically am. LOL) I am just starting out as well but I would love to get some bands, studio owners, venue managers, etc in for some interviews, merchandise promotion, and reviews. Like us on social media.
